Pre Care

Preparing for your tattoo appointment is vital so that your tattoo has the best possible healing process. Caring for a fresh tattoo after an appointment is necessary. Unfortunately, many people don’t put the same care into getting their skin ready for the appointment, which takes a major toll on the final result. Hydrating, moisturizing, and avoiding irritation will ensure that your skin is in the best possible condition to be tattooed. Tattoo application is key, but a proper combination of both pre-care and post-care is just as important.

Substance Use Before Your Appointment

Your physical and mental state greatly impacts your tattoo experience. To ensure the best results and a safe environment for both you and the artist, the following policies apply:

Alcohol and Drugs
  1. Alcohol Use:

    • Alcohol thins the blood, which can lead to:

      • Excessive bleeding during the tattoo process

      • Difficulty in pigment retention

      • Longer healing time

  • Arriving hungover affects your tolerance and comfort, making the experience less enjoyable for you and more challenging for the artist.

  • Policy: If signs of hangover or recent alcohol consumption are detected, the artist reserves the right to refuse service, and your deposit will be forfeited.

  1. Drug Use:

    • Definition of Drugs: Any substance that alters your mental or physical state, including but not limited to:

      • Recreational drugs (e.g., marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, etc.)

      • Overuse of Prescription medication not disclosed to the artist (see medical conditions policy)

      • Over-the-counter medications with sedative or blood-thinning effects

  • Policy: If any signs of drug use are noticed, including impaired judgment, erratic behaviour, or physical symptoms, the appointment will be cancelled immediately, and your deposit will be forfeited.

Pre-Tattoo Preparation

  • Sleep: Ensure you get a good night’s rest before your appointment. Proper sleep enhances pain tolerance and helps you remain relaxed during the procedure.

  • Hydration and Nutrition: Drink water and eat a substantial meal beforehand to stabilize your energy levels.

By booking an appointment, you agree to comply with this policy. The artist has the right to refuse service to ensure a safe, professional, and enjoyable experience for all parties involved.

Hydrate And Moisturize Regularly Before Your Tattoo Appointment

Be sure to drink plenty of water. Drink at least 1-2 litres a day leading up to your tattoo appointment. Properly hydrating before your tattoo appointment helps ensure that your skin is properly hydrated as well. Having properly hydrated skin is a huge factor in helping to guarantee that your tattoo will heal well. Staying hydrated will also help you to withstand longer tattoo sessions. Taking time to moisturize the area 1-2 times a day will help with moisture and skin health as well. However, do not apply any creams or lotions to the area on the day of your tattoo appointment.

Avoid Damage to the skin before your tattoo Appointment

Use caution for at least 1 month prior to your tattoo appointment. Be sure to also avoid direct sun, tanning, chemical peels, or any other procedures that can damage your skin. Your artist will do all necessary skin preparation, such as shaving, before beginning your tattoo. Shaving the area that will be tattooed yourself before arriving at your tattoo appointment is not recommended. You could irritate your skin, making it impossible to tattoo over the irritation.

If you show up with visible sunburn, tanned, or with the area damaged the artist will refuse the service and keep the deposit to cover the loss of the schedule. It is your responsibility to prepare and care for your skin prior to your appointment. Don't book an appointment if you're not committed to follow the pre-care.

Pre-care

Tattoo Aftercare

You’ve finally got the tattoo you’ve wanted.
It’s vibrant, colourful, and unique to you. Now comes the crucial part: taking proper care of it to avoid any complications, like a skin infection. But what’s the best way to ensure it heals perfectly? Let’s break it down step by step.

Bandage Care

Your tattoo artist will clean and apply a bandage to your fresh tattoo. This bandage can stay on for up to three days, but you’ll start the aftercare routine when you remove it.

  • Remove Carefully: Do not peel it off like a sticker. Instead, stretch it gently, like removing command tape. This method helps avoid cuts, wounds, or damage to your tattoo.

  • Allergic Reaction? If you notice any irritation or reaction, remove the bandage immediately.

Step 1: Cleanse

Gently clean your tattoo with unscented soap and let it air dry or use a clean paper towel.

  • Avoid Towels: Regular bath towels can harbour bacteria.

  • No Scratching or Touching: Let your tattoo breathe, and wear loose clothing to minimize irritation.

A clean tattoo is essential for proper healing. Use only gentle products, avoiding harsh scrubs or exfoliants that might damage the skin barrier.

  • Frequency: Twice a day.

  • Tip: Use a small amount of soap proportional to the tattoo size.

Step 2: Hydrate

For the first four days after cleaning, apply a healing ointment like CeraVe Healing Ointment to keep your tattoo moisturized and protected.

  • Why CeraVe? Packed with ceramides, it hydrates and safeguards the skin while reducing itching and flaking.

  • Avoid Vaseline: Opt for breathable products like CeraVe, which are more suited for fresh tattoos.

  • Frequency: Twice daily.

  • Quantity: A pea-sized amount for small tattoos; a coffee bean-sized amount for larger ones.

Step 3: Moisturize

Starting on the fifth day, switch to a gentle, unscented moisturizer such as CeraVe or Lubriderm for continued hydration.

  • Why Moisturizer? It allows your skin to breathe while delivering long-lasting hydration.

  • Avoid Ointments: Products like Vaseline can clog pores during this phase.

  • Frequency: Twice daily.

  • Quantity: Same as with the healing ointment.

Step 4: Keep It Vibrant

To maintain your tattoo’s brightness, choose lotions enriched with vitamin B5, like fragrance-free Lubriderm options. These not only hydrate but also help preserve the vividness of your tattoo.

  • Frequency: Twice daily, long-term use recommended.

With these steps, your tattoo will heal beautifully and stay as stunning as the day you got it.
